On September 7, 2020, at 9:00 A.M. Hanoi Time, a trial will be held against 29 people who are farmers of Dong Tam village. The defendants were being alleged with “homicide” and “oppose officials who were on duty.” The maximum punishment for homicide in Vietnam could be the death penalty.

The protracted dispute over the land between Dong Tam villagers and the government simmered over the last few decades, and a group of activists compiled a report and published it here.

There were four people killed when the police bursted into the village, including Le Dinh Kinh, the 85-year-old village’s leader.

The trial will expectedly last for ten days. We will continue to update it in our [News] section throughout.
